REVIEWS & COMMENTS - SHOWS & PRIVATE WORK

Thank you to all the singers, friends & families for contributing to this column. The show singers are students of different ages (4-17yrs) and at different levels of training. Some have further studied and sat singing exams in Music Theatre and/or Pop Recital (Step1 - Grade 8/Diploma) with the London College of Music (100% pass rate and 99% distinctions). The show is a chance to highlight repertoire that they have either individually (within a private lesson) or within a group environment worked towards for either exam and/or performance level standards. Singers choose songs along with me, decide who they would like to work with (duets-double lesson work) and depending on their level of training and commitment, can progress each year on stage. Some singers are relatively new students, whereas others have studied with me for many years. I like to think of my students as children who have a love of singing and I give them the freedom to express and safely develop without being limited as their voices grow. The show is not a school production and we are not a performing arts group, just all singers simply coming together, once a year and showcasing our progression.

The show is an opportunity to take a glimpse at their work, to gain a better understanding of the level to which they are being trained, the commitment needed to further perform and for the singers to gain a fantastic confidence boost each year they perform within great surroundings....

Hi Catherine, another impressive show, which improves year on year. All the cast were fantastic, no hitches or mistakes, word perfect... really enjoyed seeing the improvement with some of the pupils and loved the ones in costume, really makes the show more interesting and come alive for the audience. I can't believe the improvement with both of my girls over the last 5 years. They love to perform and would do more if they could. So, well done and thanks for all your hard work, not just for yesterday, but throughout the year. What a fantastic show, thank you so much for the invite. We particularly liked the fact that you allow your singers to choose their repertoire and the end result is perfection, this works so well as they enjoy rehearsing their music! It was a brilliant show-good variety of songs and thoroughly enjoyable. Good - Group performances. Felt more rehearsed and polished than previous years. nice to see a variation of repertoire and a range of ages. Lovely to get to know everyone.

This year I wasn't as nervous because all of the older singers were so nice. All singers were very good this year and it was definately

I really enjoyed it, it was nice meeting all of the other singers and we all had a nice time backstage. I liked the group songs and everybody was so comforting. The audience were blacked out, so I didnt have to look at eyes!!!

Things I loved were: everyone was really nice, and there were some really good songs! I also quite liked how the audience were blacked out. I would prefer it if we were a bit less crowded and loud in the dressing rooms but apart from that i really liked it. The show was amazing this year and everyone was AMAZING!! Brianna (child singer)

I thought that the show was really well run and organised. I think the songs sounded absolutely amazing. The older girls were really kind and helpful and made sure you had everything you needed. My favourite songs were Lost Boy, Little Me and Grandma's song. Melissa (child singer)

E15 ACTING SCHOOL, THE CORBETT THEATRE 16TH OCTOBER 2016...

Dear Catherine

The show was a great success, especially the theatrical elements. I know I’m biased, but I was also moved to tears with the end performance. I liked the singers introducing themselves and the songs they were singing, as I was unfamiliar with a lot of them. The two girls introducing the show were good too. My only criticism as to do with only one serving at the bar. Maybe a pre-order and pay system could be swifter for next time, like at some theatres? The seats were much more comfortable and lighting and sound was good. Well done. Wendy re Ethan

Just wanted to say what a fantastic show on Sunday 9th October 16, I felt the quality of the singers this year were amazing and can truly say I think this was the best show performed so far. It's great to see the children flourish each year and I'm not surprised that so most achieved distinctions in their exams. Feedback from us was brilliant, the venue was perfect and the children, wow!!! It’s so good to see the difference in the singers performance over the last year alone. I think you have a few singers to watch out for in the future. All the children bonded brilliantly on stage and it was great to see some new male additions. Rosie said in particular that the older girls were very caring and supportive (Olivia & Charlotte was it?). As for yourself Catherine, words aren’t enough to say how much we appreciate all the hard work you have put into the show. I can understand you becoming emotional at the end as the organising and stress must have been through the roof. We totally appreciate everything you do and without you taking the time to continue year after year the children would not be experiencing the wonders of showbiz!! On a more technical side.... I absolutely loved your staging this year. The mix of solos and group songs was so much better. The group ones are fab and really give those less able/less confident children the chance to shine. Thought 7 years showcased a wider variety of singers and loved the staging of that. I loved the show. Great venue, great voices and great friendships. Now Darcey has processed it all and met the other children, I think she might go solo next time. Fingers crossed. Hi Catherine, It was a lovely show, I was exceedingly proud of Amy - I know she was very nervous. You have clearly coached her very well thank you (and she's practiced hard, I'm almost word perfect from listening to it!)

Ethan and Josh stood out for me- lovely to see boys engage with the performing arts; their voices were stunning and both had a very mature, calm stage presence too. I also enjoyed Maddie's performance very much too. Her character came through especially well on her last song and her voice was lovely. Rosie has a lovely voice and the duet with Amy was very good. Dear Catherine, it was a really good performance again, as usual. My sister-in-law, primary teacher was very impressed with the quality. Don't know what happened with the little girl that you lead out, looked like she'd been crying but she performed marvellously, well done to her. Loved the Sound of Music and ABBA tracks, little girls were so sweet. Great organisation and loved the kids saying their name, funny that Josh said, "and the rest of the singers"!! The kids did really well on stage which is daunting so they all were very brave and some were spectacular. The two little girls duet-ing were brilliant. Hi Catherine. I thought yesterday's show was amazing. You have done such a great job of building up the children's confidence. Being able to perform in public will be an asset in any workplace. I loved the variety of age groups, experience and song choices. They were well distributed throughout the show.
